Product Description
In the past, the trouble with long-distance measuring was that it could be cumbersome, time-consuming, and potentially inaccurate. But with the FatMax Tru Laser measuring system, laser technology solves the problems of yesteryear with point-and-shoot ease. Perfect for people who need to measure farther than they can reach, the FatMax Tru Laser turns complicated surveying into a one-man job. Just point the laser, press the button, and voila -- instant, accurate measurements for do-it-yourselfers or contract professionals.
Take measurements indoors, outdoors, and in hard-to-reach areas without complicated set-ups, ladders, or climbing. Forget about measuring poles and wobbly steel tapes. With the FatMax Tru Laser you can calculate length, width, and height from any reference point in the room, and you can even determine the available area or volume. Great for appraisers, carpenters, plumbers, technicians, floor and tile layers, and painters, the FatMax is as versatile as it is easy to use.

Great for Tiling Estimations
Just imagine the number of measurements and dimensions involved in even the simplest tiling project. Reduce the waste and frustration from re-tiling and re-cutting by getting it right the first time with this lightweight, portable measuring device.
Simplify Window Fitting
Window fitting normally relies on measuring tapes, but what if you've got dozens of windows spaced over a large front -- for example, an apartment block? Measuring the old-fashioned way would be tiresome and time-consuming, not to mention dangerous. But with the FatMax Tru Laser, complex calculations and production planning is streamlined and safe.
Painting is a Piece of Cake
Indoor measurements are inconvenient and imprecise, primarily because of the inefficient manner in which they're carried out. Walking back and forth with floppy, difficult-to-manage tapes or enlisting the help of friends can double your work time and give you a backache, but the FatMax Tru Laser measures like a pro. Just step inside, point and click, and the room's exact area, volume, size, and length are right at your fingertips.
Carpet Laying Can Be Uncomplicated
Let the FatMax Tru Laser eliminate transcription errors by doing the math for you. That way, you only need to do the job once -- and you can abandon cumbersome, repetitive tasks like stooping to plant and arrange measuring tapes.
Enjoy Immediate, Pinpoint Accuracy
This innovative point-and-shoot laser tool measures distances up to 100 feet with an accuracy that's +/- just a 1/4-inch. Try getting that kind of precision from an old steel tape! And don't be fooled by cheaper sonic measuring tools that claim similar technology. They may cost less, but they're notoriously inaccurate -- with precision that varies up to 4 inches at only 50 feet. So if you need numbers that are right on the money, don't skimp with inferior tools. Stick with the Tru Laser if you want it done right the first time, every time.
Applications
Use the FatMax Tru Laser to quickly and accurately measure room sizes, ceiling heights, and long runs of fencing and railings; and it also performs addition and subtraction, calculates area, and determines volume. This advanced tool is a fantastic choice for almost any professional contractor, designer, technician, or appraiser.

I bought this model a few years ago when I was doing real estate appraisals. I’ve used it for estimating, measuring ceiling heights, and a host of other things. My father borrows it because he says it’s more accurate than he is with a tape measure! I would buy one again, if something ever happened to mine. It’s one of my favorite tools, and it’s never been wrong. Only complaints can be solved by buying a Lecia that costs 3x more, but for my purposes, it’s perfect, and a huge bang for the buck.
Useful for Crown Molding

I’ve had really good luck using this measurer for hanging crown molding. Very precise. Sometimes my hand is a bit skakey with the laser though. Here’s a article on this tool that’s worth checking out –

EXCELLENT DEVICE, IMPROVED ACCURACY
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’m very satisfied with this product, the accuracy is inmejorable. I use it to make measurement of buildings to draw cadastre lay-outs.
I put 4 stars instead of 5 because the device have a shape problem when one try to make an orthogonal angle over the wall (it have a curve shape in the back) that sometimes difficult the measurement.
However, I recommend this product for its price and quality.

the instrument is excellent and very useful. only the battery cell which came with the instrument was leaking and dead.
Right price right features

This is a great buy for the money. It is geared around the residential market, so don’t expect lot’s of thrills, but it does what is supposed to do within a 1/4″ accuracy which is plenty enough for residential construction. Ceilings alcoves even hard to reach spaces are easy to be measured.
Simple and works great

Fantastic tool. Used it to measure out window dimensions and double checked with steel tape measure just for extra confidence and it was as accurate as they advertise. Great to have around the house for painting, flooring and any other measuring needs.
awesome!

I got this as a gift for my husband and he just loves it!! He tells me how much time it saves him at work now that he doesn’t have to use a standard tape measure. Great product!!
A great convenient measuring tool

I boght this for my wife (commercial Real Estate broker) and I use it as muvh as she does. Easy to use, accurate and it will do the multiplying for you for finding square feet say carpeting a room or how much tile or drywall, etc. Great Tool!!
Very Easy To Use

We aren’t professionals. We are do-it-yourself type people. The Laser Measurer beats using a tape measurer any day. We are building a cottage in the woods and this instrument is saving us time.
Not worth the money-Save up for a Disto instead
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
For years I had a different laser measuring device which finally gave out. I am an appraiser and I also perform insurance surveys and I don’t like standing out in the cold with a tape measure or measuring wheel trying to get measurements. But I did not want to spend the couple of hundred dollars for a Disto, which I really wanted. I went ahead and purchased the FatMax Tru-Laser not long after it originally became available for sale. From the very beginning I had great difficulty getting reliable measurements. As the weather got colder it became worse and the rear battery cover kept wanting to come off and did not want to stay on. I ended up sticking it with my other tools and purchasing the Disto. I attempted to give it another go in the summer but continued to have inaccurate and inconsistant measurements. I felt I had paid too much for it and that for what I do and my need to be accurate, consistant, and quick and it just did not meet my needs. My old first generation laser measurer had cost less and was reliable and this cannot take the simplest of measurements. I just recently sold mine on ebay. It is really worth it to save up the money for a Disto and to be able to perform the measurements it does. I assume that anyone who would be purchasing a laser measuring device of this price is employed professionally in a job which they need to decrease their measuring time and continue to be consistantly accurate, but not exact.

este producto es bueno tiene muy poca toleracia de error en la precisión de la medida
Nice but consider the accuracy
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Works great, as advertised, easy to use.
The only thing is, when they say there is up to 1/4 inch inaccuracy at 100 feet distance, you have to realize there is also 1/4 inch inaccuracy at 20 feet, or 10 feet, or even 1 foot (it’s due to the clock speed of the microprocessor).
For me this is just not accurate enough. Like if you’re doing molding – - forget it.
If the quarter inch is not a problem for your work, this one is a fine deal.
The same manufacturer makes model LT-160 accurate to 1/16 inch (slightly higher price).
Easy to use

Only had this for a few weeks, but have used many times. I purchased it so I could easily make measurements in all the nooks and bump-outs in our kitchen so I could lay out a cork flooring design. So much easier than the traditional tape measure which requires two people to use. We are also in the midst of an addition. At night I go home and can make quick measurements on ceiling heights, window placements, etc to make sure we catch any framing glitches early. Again, it takes one person and a quick push of a button.
You can set it to default measure to the back of the device, or from the front of the device. It’s flexible and quite accurate.
very convenient

this product works very well. It’s really great for people who live alone and don’t have help holding a tape measure. this measures accurately and is a blast to use. However, it is a bit pricey.
Essential for measuring rooms, very useful everywhere else
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this in frustration after trying to accurately measure several rooms of my house with a steel tape. Besides furniture being in the way, I found that my numbers weren’t adding up with the tape if I measured the same distance two ways like going around the room or subtracting out small walls and stuff. With the laser, everything is dead on.
They say the accuracy is 1/4″ over 100 feet and that seems true. You’ll get slightly greater variation though in some cases because the device doesn’t contain any sort of level and the case is not completely flat on any side. Therefore, it takes a little practice to know if you’re shooting a straight line or a slight angle. An angle would add in a 1/8 or so here or there in large rooms, but it’s pretty easy to get good at figuring out what the carpenters probably did for real. Don’t do what I did and measure right at the corner or ceiling of a room. Because the drywall mud flares out a little at intersections, the room is actually slightly smaller in the corners in many cases. So get a foot or so away from any other wall and eyeball if the beam is landing in a similar spot across the room.
I still use my steel tape in some circumstances, certainly for woodworking of any kind and in some remodeling cases too. But this works great with that for anything over a couple feet and is superior for inside dimensions of any sort.
The math features (calculating area, adding, etc.) might be handy, but in reality they are very basic and you don’t have memory to do things like subtract windows and doors as you go, so it’s not really a replacement for a good piece of paper and maybe a spreadsheet or construction calculator.
Must have for DIYs

Excellent tool. I use it about the house for home projects all the time. Very accurate. Perfect for one person measurement tasks. Always happy to not have to cope with floppy, droopy measuring tapes. I recommend it.
Right tool for the right job.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I work in architecture and I often have to take as-built measurements of projects. I borrowed one of these and it was a great compliment to a traditional tape. Ordered my own shortly thereafter. Great for long overall dimensions and to confirm multiple tape readings. Cut my measuring time in half which, in this business, is appreciated time savings.
I highly recommend the product, but would caution against throwing out that old tape measure. This is the right tool for certain tasks – long, straight measurements, but keep the tape handy when the distance is too short or you don’t have a clear line of sight. It works exceedingly better than the old sonar kind and the functions are pretty intuitive after a few minutes.
Accurate, quick, and easy to use!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this for my husband because he measures floors for his job. Before this, he used the regular tape measures and it would break in 6 months or less so we decided to invest in this laser tape measure. He said that it’s very accurate, quick and easy to use. It only needs a 1/2 in. of wall space to measure.
FatMax Laser Measurer

The first blister packed unit I bought from Home Despot was 3/4″ off in 10′ which was not as accurate as promised and far too inaccurate for my use. HD was good about replacing it but it took me 5 units (opened and tested at the store) before I found an accurately calibrated unit. Check before you pay! I’ve been using it pretty regularly for nearly a year now and wouldn’t be with out it.
Consider this usability flaw if you are a perfectionist like me.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The product works as advertised. It is inexpensive and easy to operate and it is very accurate but seriously product designers, would it have killed you to make the sides squared off? The bottom surface and surface opposite the laser side are relatively flat but when the product is placed on either of the narrow sides it aims at an angle. What is the point if it is accurate to 1/8″ over 100′ if you have to level it with your eyes? If you are off by a few degrees that makes the accuracy more in the neighborhood 2″. Call me picky, but I put “perfectionist” in the title for a reason. It would be a five star product if it were brick shaped but the little frilly curves and angles easily knock it down to two for me.
Handy tool
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I am an appraiser and typically wear out 3 to 5 fiberglass tapes a year measuring houses. I had purchased a sonic measuring device which was pathetically unreliable unless you were measuring a short unobstructed inside corner to inside corner. The laser is a huge improvement in that it gives you pinpoint accuracy for measuring point to point, but don’t throw your tape away. The laser is great for certain measurments, but not practical for others. the addition/subtraction feature is really handy. Using the tape and laser together priceless. Probably cuts my measuring time down by 30% to 40%.
great item
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a really good product. It uses a Leica Geosystems measuring components which are on of the best. It measures on semi-reflective surfaces. The beam will reflect off of very dark color, such as near black gray or brown, but will not work on pure black, such as black cat or a high gloss black computer case. You will get error 255. The laser in the device is straight and is not supposed to be reflected back into the lens. This will blind the optics and cause a 258 error. The surface it is used on does not have to be flat.
Ttesting:
It will precisely measure a flat white wall, silver colored tv, dark gray cabinet, very dark brown molding, vertical and horizontal steel piping, clock face, semi-translucent plastic cutting sheet leaning on a faucet at a 65 degree angle, white carpet, a milky white metal chair back and people.
It will not properly measure a silverstone black desktop case, black japanese ebony wood table, a black cat laying on a white carpet. These will give a 255 error.
It will give false readings if measuring through a window or a mirror.
The device does add its own length to the measurement, so the device measures from rubber back of the device to wherever the beam hits.
Invoice cost ~$30-40
I found and bought it for $45.

Small and accurate
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This equipment is small but you can measure distances up to 30 m (100 ft) with and accurancy of 6 mm (3/8″). Great when your are checking distance during my inspecrions.
Works great – if indoors or in the shade
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This device accurately measures distances (and the laser is a great cat toy, as well!).
As noted in some other reviews, the laser spot is not bright enough to be seen in bright sunlight. Other than that, it’s fine.
Accurate. Ergonomic. Comfortable. Nice size. Easy to use.

This was a replacement for a smaller version of the same type, however its measurement was never accurate. I’ve found this one to be right on the mark each and every time, a true time saver.
Simple and accurate.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This really is a handy and suprisingly small device. The laser makes it easy to pinpoint and line up measurements, especially compared to the ultrasonic measurer I have. I’ve used it so far to measure up the interior of my house for a planned renovation. Trying to take measurements working alone with a tape is a huge pain in the @$$, especially with furniture in the way. I haven’t pushed it to the limit as far as working at longs distances or in bright sunlight, but I will soon.
Accurate and surprisingly affordable
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I guess this thing uses a method called “time of flight measurement,” same as laser range finders used in the military. Therefore the accuracy is not surprising. But I am amazed by its price and appreciate its design to be rugged and easy to use.
I have had if for a few months and have a few chances to take advantage of it.
I make lasers for a living, different types though.
I just LOVE measuring with FatMax!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m a real estate appraiser and started using FatMax tapes when they first came out. They last longer, easier to read and stand out farther than any other tape I’ve used. In a small belt pouch I carry FatMax 35′ hard tape and FatMax palm size 100′ metal roll-up tape.
I bought the FatMax Laser from Amazon a month ago and instantly fell in love. The appraiser Disto lasers are $400-800 and few of us want to spend that kind of money, so $90 for the FatMax laser- it’s a nobrainer… just buy it and you’ll love it! I checked accuracy against a hard tape for days and it really is dead-on accurate. As fast as you can push the button twice, you can measure interior wall-to-wall lengths in garages and upper levels; shoot down a 30′ wall past landscape with the push of a button or come around an exterior corner and shoot from corner to the far fence.
Hold the laser still before pressing button and sometimes shoot twice as a double check. You need a far wall or target to shoot at and can’t see laser dot in sunlight at a distance, but for half your measurements it works as fast as you can push a button twice. Like me, you’ll wonder how you ever got along with out it!
